Students' Rights & Activism
Emerson Sykes
Emerson Sykes will explore current challenges surrounding First Amendment rights in both high school and college settings. He will examine the balance between students' rights to protest peacefully and lawfully, as well as the academic freedom of professors and the need for a proportionate institutional response.You’ll also learn practical dos and don’ts for navigating protests and activism on campus.
Panel Discussion: Student Activists
Julia Garnett, Da'Taeveyon Daniels, Edha Gupta
Hear from student activists as they share their personal journeys in activism. The panel will cover how to find your voice, work with activists, and leverage the unique strengths of student organizers.
Public Comment Workshop
Miles Davis
Miles Davis from Florida’s PRISM will lead a School Board Advocacy Workshop, teaching you how to effectively engage with your School Board and advocate for student rights. You’ll learn how decisions are made, how to speak at meetings, craft compelling testimony, and stay involved beyond a single session.
On the Language of Political Posters
Josh MacPhee
Josh MacPhee will explore the art of designing political posters that grab attention and spark action. You’ll learn key design principles and how to communicate powerful messages through visuals.
Panel Discussion: Writing About Controversial Topics
Myesha Phukan, Moderated by Jonathan Gaston Falk
Student journalists will discuss how they can cover controversial issues with integrity and insight. You'll learn techniques for balancing facts and opinions, ensuring fair representation, and handling sensitive topics responsibly in your reporting.
